We warmly welcome visits throughout the year. Seeing the school in person is often the best way to find our whether it feels right for your child. You'll be able to look around, meet staff, and get a real sense of our community.

Just contact us and we'll arrange a visit at a time that works for you.

Reception applications open in the Autumn term, usually around mid-September. The deadline to apply is 15th January each year.

Applying before this date ensures your application is included in the main allocation round.

All applications for Southey Green Primary School and Nursery are made through Sheffield City Council. The process is straightforward, and you can apply online through the Sheffield Council website, or contact their admissions team if you'd prefer support.

Their website also has helpful guides for parents about choosing and applying for a school place.

What if my child has Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

You should still apply through the usual admissions process - unless they have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan.

If Wisewood is named in your child's EHC plan, they will be offered a place.

We are an inclusive school and are committed to meeting the needs of every child.

What if I want to move my child from another school?

If your child is already attending another school, and you'd like them to move to Southey Green, you can apply for an in-year transfer through Sheffield Council.

Families choose to move schools for many reasons, and we're here to support you through the process.

If more families apply then we have places available, Sheffield City Council uses their official criteria to decide on how places are allocated.

We understand how important this decision is, and we want to assure you that the process is fair and follows national guidance.

If you'd like more detail about admissions , you can read our full policy here. This includes everything you might need in one place.

To see what's happening at Southey Green and keep up to date with events, news, and celebrations of our children's work, follow us on our social media channels. It's a lovely way to get a feel for our school community.

Once a place has been offered you will be invited to an introductory visit at the school. Your child will also be offered a home visit so that we can get to know them better.

We're here to support you every step of the way. Contact us with any questions you have.

Transition to Primary School

Reception
Children transfer into Reception classes in September. Before the start of the school year, the school offer the opportunity to visit the setting and meet the teachers. They will spend time with your child in their current Nursery provision to learn more about them and their achievements. Often, where families are new to our school, staff will complete a home visit too. When a place is offered, introductory visits are arranged between home and school and children have the opportunity to attend the set transition days.

At Southey Green, we aim to provide a happy and secure environment in which every child can experience a wide variety of learning opportunities as well as being able to play co-operatively alongside and with other children. The planned Foundation Stage curriculum builds upon the skills and understanding which each child has already acquired, and develops them in all areas of their learning and development, including social, emotional, physical and intellectual.

Key Stage 1 and 2
Children move into Year 1 in the September following their admission into the Reception classes.

Children continue to move through the year groups each September until they are ready to transfer at the end of Year 6 into secondary education.

Any parent wishing to visit the school before applying for admission for their child is more than welcome to do so. Please phone for an appointment.

When your child transfers from (Nursery) or starts at our school you will be invited to attend a pre admissions meeting. Here you will be asked to complete a detailed admission form and receive important information about the school. Please bring along with you your child’s birth certificate or passport and completed admission form.

If you're thinking about joining us - whether for reception or an in-year transfer - we'd love to show you round. A personal visit is the best way to get a feel for our school community.
